What it's for

Wheat grows in fields and can be made into cow feed in the mill.

Wheat is one of the basic crops you plant on the field, the fertile field, the wintry and rural fertile fields and the other upgraded fields on the main farm. In the game it is mainly a raw material for the windmill, where it is turned into cow feed, so without wheat your milk production will soon grind to a halt. On top of that you need it in the shop, in the kitchen at The Mermaid Bay and at the bakery stand. The shop sells it for 300 Dollars apiece, but that is more of a fallback for emergencies.

How to get it

The cheapest way to grow wheat is for money - on the field, 450 Dollars gets you 40 units in 6 hours, which works out at around 11 Dollars per unit, far cheaper than buying it straight from the shop. If you have special wheat seeds from the nursery or the farm laboratory, a batch of 14 to 24 units grows in just 30 minutes, so they come in handy when you need a smaller amount fast. The highest yield comes from obsidian wheat seeds, which come in three versions - the basic one gives 200 units on a level 1 field, the XL 310 units and the XXL 410 units, always in 3 hours, but they are rare resources tied to wheat only, so use them up whenever you get them.

What to do with it

The main outlet for wheat is the windmill and its efficient version, where it becomes cow feed for the cowshed. Beyond that it is used by the shop for the pasta gift basket, the summer bouquet and the romantic bouquet, by the kitchen at The Mermaid Bay for several fish dishes and by the bakery stand for pretzels and gingerbread hearts. The nursery and the farm laboratory also turn it into special wheat seeds, which speed up your next harvests. Unprocessed wheat can also be sold straight away or used in customer contracts, if customers happen to want it.

Tip from a veteran player I have found it pays to keep a stock of wheat mainly for cow feed - milk drives a lot of other chains, so this link is the first one I sort out.
Most common mistake A common mistake is leaving the field idle even though you have special or obsidian seeds on hand - you are needlessly missing out on a much higher yield for the same plot.
