Themed events

A themed event is a time-limited event with its own story and characters who ask you for help with a wedding, a camp, a trip to Asia, a slice of Hawaii or a mysterious UFO on the farm. Progress through the story tasks unlocks decorations available only for a limited time, and if you're moving fast, you can even make it into a separate speed challenge against other players. On top of that, you pick a difficulty before the start, and that decides how demanding the tasks will be and which decoration you end up with.

Themed events are worth it for the exclusive decorations you can't buy anywhere else, but it pays to pick the difficulty by the recommended level range, not by how pretty the reward looks - otherwise you end up paying gold for the last chance offer.

Every event has its own story and characters who guide you through the tasks

A themed event is always built around a particular story with characters from the farm and beyond. From what I've played through, the themes rotate regularly and each one has a different reason why it needs your help right now.

In the wedding theme Three Weddings and One Ceremony, George and Rita are working out how to handle three weddings at once, and in the end they even consult the other neighbors about how to reconcile the traditional approach with the modern demands of the couples.
In the camp theme A Real Adventure, Tessa takes you into the woods because she needs to brush up on her scouting skills before she starts training young scouts.
In the Hawaiian theme A Slice of Hawaii, Benny's cousin Lana arrives at the farm with her turtle Shelly and tries to bring a Hawaiian vibe to the place.
In the theme It's Not of This World, agent J and his partner investigate strange goings-on at the farm, because reports of unusual sightings keep piling up.
In the theme Mysterious Asia, Daniel inspires the farm with a parcel from samurai Japan and a longing to travel east.
In the Culinary Campaign one of the characters wants to start a food truck with healthy food and talks it over with George, wondering whether farmers even want salads.

The characters' dialogues can be replayed after the event's intro, so you can remind yourself what the story is about at any time.

Before the event starts you pick a difficulty that decides your reward

At the beginning of the event a screen with the difficulty level selection appears, and the game points out right away that the decoration you get at the end depends on the difficulty you choose. Each level also shows the recommended farmer level range the option is meant for.

In the selection I've come across several difficulty names, for example Great Farmer, Specialist Farmer, Farming Talent, Farming Master, Perfect Farmer or the label Very Difficult for the hardest option. Without a difficulty selected the reward preview doesn't even show up, and the game asks you outright to choose.

Completed tasks unlock decorations available only for a limited time

Every themed event comes with a set of decorations that can be bought in the build menu only while the event lasts. Access to the next task is usually conditional on finishing the previous one, so you don't work through the tasks in any order you like, but step by step as they follow on from each other.

Once you complete all the tasks you get the final reward, which you'll find in your inventory under Temporary storage. From there you collect it and place it on the farm like any other decoration.

The fastest players advance into a separate speed challenge

When you move through the tasks fast enough, the game takes you to a speed challenge on a hidden map. Here it's purely a race for speed - with each further task the number of players who advance shrinks, so the entrance to the next round is open only for a limited time and only for a set number of the fastest.

If you make it into that number, you get a reward for your placement and move on.

If you arrive late, the entrance closes and you won't get into the next round, even though you can see there would still be time left.

Whoever lasts to the very end as the last one standing gets a special reward for winning the whole challenge.

The timer in the corner of the screen shows how long until the rankings update, so you know how much time you have left for your next move.

What to do when you don't finish the event in time

When the time runs out and you haven't completed all the tasks, the game offers you a last chance - you can still buy the final reward for gold. The price of this offer is brought down by the tasks you managed to complete in the meantime, so the further you got in the story, the less you pay for the reward in the end.

This offer is only valid for a limited time, though. As soon as you close the last chance window, the offer expires and the reward can't be bought any more.

Tip from a veteran player Before you pick the highest difficulty for the best decoration, take a look at the recommended level range for that option - if you're below it, go one level lower so you actually finish the tasks in time and don't have to pay gold for the last chance.

Most common mistake Most often I see players go straight for the highest difficulty because of the nicest decoration, without looking at the recommended level range - then they run out of time, don't finish the tasks and end up paying gold for a final reward they could have had for free with a more sensible choice.

FAQ

What happens when you don't complete all the tasks in a themed event

A last chance offer appears and you can still buy the final reward for gold, with the price brought down by the tasks you've completed in the meantime. But as soon as you close that window, the offer expires and you won't get it back.

How to get into the speed challenge in a themed event

The speed challenge unlocks when you manage to progress through the story part of the event fast enough to be among the fastest players. A hidden map opens up, where each further round cuts the number of players who advance, until only the fastest one is left.

Where to find the reward from a themed event once it's done

The reward for completing all the tasks goes to the Temporary storage in your inventory, where you collect it and put it to use on the farm.

How to choose the difficulty of a themed event

The difficulty selection screen shows the recommended farmer level range for each option, and the difficulty you choose also decides which decoration you get at the end.
