What it's for

In the bakery you can make baked goods using ingredients from your farm. The more you upgrade the building, the fewer ingredients you need for the baked goods.

Produces

The Bakery is a 10x7 production building on the Gourmet farm where you turn homegrown ingredients - milk, eggs, almonds, apples, peaches, cherries, wheat and more - into cakes and pastries. It is one of the key buildings in the gourmet production line, because recipes like apple pie, apple turnovers, almond muffins or fruit cream cake are things you keep needing for orders and for other recipes on this farm. You can buy it straight from the Shop, so you do not have to wait for a lucky drop the way you do with some other buildings. You will appreciate the Bakery most if you actively play the Gourmet farm and want your own source of sweet baked goods instead of depending on the market or on friends.

When to build it

It is worth building as soon as you unlock the Gourmet farm and hit the player level 30 needed for the first tier - the entry price of 150,000 dollars and 10 workers is not crushing. Since this is the only building of its kind and the recipe list runs from apple pie and apple turnovers through cream puffs, Black Forest cake and pink donuts all the way to onion soup in a bread bowl or cherry cookies, one Bakery on the farm is enough. Do build it early though, so your supply of apple and fruit cakes is secured right from the early stages of the gourmet branch.

Is it worth upgrading

Upgrading the Bakery does not work the way it does in typical production buildings, where the output is what grows - here every higher level lowers the amount of input ingredients needed for the same size batch, which the production table confirms. At level one an apple pie eats 750 eggs, 250 almonds and 1,300 apples for 250 units, while at the top level the same 250 units only need 595 eggs, 200 almonds and 1,040 apples. I see the same drop with apple turnovers, almond muffins and fruit cream cake, so upgrading is worth it for anyone who uses the Bakery regularly, because the saved ingredients can go somewhere else. Just be aware that the last, ninth level jumps from a requirement of player level 91 straight to 157, making it a clearly long term goal.

Tip from a veteran player Before you start upgrading the Bakery, look at which cakes you bake most often and focus on the ingredients for those recipes - the savings are biggest on recipes with heavy input consumption, like apple pie or fruit cream cake.

Most common mistake An early mistake is building the Bakery but not watching your stock of input ingredients like apples, milk or almonds - without enough of those produced on the farm the building just sits idle, because the recipes have fairly steep input demands.
