How to get the most out of a temporary farm

The island, Viking, candy and festive farms all work on the same principle, even though each one tells a different story and offers different animals and products. You can only reach any of them from level 35 onwards and they all disappear after exactly 30 days, so it pays to have a clear plan from day one. This guide applies to any of them - just swap the general terms like farm currency or trader for the specific name used on whichever farm you happen to be on.

When and how you get to a temporary farm

Airport
AirportGourmet farm · 1 × 1

You'll first get access to a temporary farm once you reach level 35. After that the way opens up either through the airport, or by clicking the icon next to your main farm in the village, or by switching farms in the menu below your experience points.

  • Johnny Apple introduces you to the island farm on a tropical island.
  • Nils Nordson builds the Viking farm up in the frozen north.
  • Johnny Apple gets the candy farm going as part of a village festival.
  • The festive farm follows the same pattern, just with its own trader and its own festive currency.

Once the event starts, you have exactly 30 days to squeeze as much out of the farm as you can. After that the farm disappears and you won't get back to it until the event runs again.

Your first steps right after you arrive

Field

Before you start building, look through the overview of the event phases, which shows you what's coming from day one all the way to the final reward. Right at the start it pays to focus on three things.

  1. Build and upgrade the farmhouse and the production building, because you won't get anywhere without them.
  2. Sow the field that gives you the raw materials for feed and for further production.
  3. Get the trader's shop running, since it sells special seeds, decorations and other goods for your farm currency.

Completing tasks one by one unlocks further chapters. Finish all five tasks in a chapter and you'll get a reward that unlocks the next chapter right away.

How production and exchanging money work

Island bank
Island bankIsland farm · 8 × 7

The goods you produce on a temporary farm are sold in the Farm management during events window, where you can see everything you have available along with the current prices. You then exchange the Dollars you earn for that farm's own currency in the local bank or exchange machine.

  • On the island farm you exchange Dollars for island dollars in the island bank.
  • On the Viking farm you exchange Dollars for snow dollars in the Viking treasury.
  • On the candy farm you exchange Dollars for sugar dollars in the exchange machine.
  • On the festive farm you exchange Dollars for snow dollars in the festive bank.

The rate is always in your favor, but after every exchange you have to wait for the exchange to become available again. That's why it pays to trade in regularly, ideally every time you check in on the farm, instead of saving the bigger exchanges for the last minute. Upgrading the bank or the exchange machine also lets you exchange more money at once, so an investment in an upgrade pays for itself quickly.

The farm currency cycle that earns special rewards

Greenhouse
GreenhouseMain farm · from level 34 · 14 × 32

The real value of a temporary farm doesn't come from selling goods, but from the cycle that the farm currency feeds into.

  1. The farm currency you earn by selling products (pearls, Viking coins, lollipops or festive coins) is spent at that farm's trader on special seeds and decorations.
  2. You sow those seeds in the Greenhouse, where rare fruit grows (tropical fruit on the island farm, northern fruit on the Viking one).
  3. Captain Barnacle's ship takes the fruit away and you get a special reward as a thank you.
  4. You'll use that reward later on the Horse ranch, where you need horseshoes to train horses, and temporary farms are the best way to collect them.

On the candy farm you also build the Enchanting sugar palace step by step by donating sweets from the sweets factory. For every completed upgrade level you get a reward and a decoration, which you'll find in your interim storage. Keep in mind that donating sweets gets you a different number of lollipops than selling those sweets through farm management would, so think ahead about which is worth more to you.

Moving your rewards to the main farm

Goods you buy in the part of the shop meant for the temporary farm only work there and are lost once the event ends. Goods marked for the main farms, on the other hand, go straight there, so don't hesitate to use that part of the offer as you go along rather than at the very last minute.

Rewards for completed chapters and for upgrading the sugar palace are stored in the interim storage on your main farm, where you can pick them up later and use them as decorations or buildings. Keep an eye on the event leaderboard as well, since a spot near the top earns you another prize, and on top of that you get a bonus for collecting as much farm currency as possible during the event.

What not to forget before the farm disappears

The last few days before the event ends are the most important ones. Once the trader on the temporary farm closes his doors, you lose every bit of farm currency you haven't spent (pearls, coins or lollipops), so go through the shop just before the end and spend whatever you have left.

  • Don't forget the farm Dollars and the other currencies that can still be exchanged in the bank or the exchange machine.
  • Check any buildings and expansions still under construction, because when the event ends everything you've built is converted into Dollars and farm currency, so a finished building is genuinely worth more to you than an unfinished one.
  • The event overview shows you at any time how many days you have left, so keep an eye on it and plan your final purchases around it.

After the 30 days are up the farm is torn down and disappears until the event runs again. The rewards, decorations and horseshoes for the Horse ranch that you've earned stay on your main farm for good, though.

Buildings and products mentioned in the text

Whether you run into the island, Viking, candy or festive farm, the routine is always the same: build, sell, exchange and spend your farm currency at the trader until the shop closes its doors. Anyone who runs through this cycle every season will collect enough rewards for a fully fledged Horse ranch and a nice collection of decorations on the main farm. Just don't leave anything unspent until the last day, because leftover farm currency simply vanishes once the event is over.
