A handy building for turning surplus from your fields into something more valuable, but I would let the recipes I actually use decide how far to invest in the high levels.

The Farm laboratory is a special 5x5 building you can put up on the main farm, the gourmet farm and the flower farm. It turns ordinary crops and catalysts into special seeds, and on top of that it lets you break rarer catalysts down into more common ones – legendary into unique, unique into valuable, valuable into rare and rare into ordinary, which is what you then pour into the seeds. It needs 5 workers to run and unlocks in the shop at player level 11. It is a building for players who already have their crop production going and want to get more out of the surplus, not for complete beginners.

When to build it

It makes sense to build it as soon as it unlocks at level 11, because the first level costs only 100,000 dollars and takes an hour to build. Since the laboratory works separately on each of the three farms, it pays to build one on the main farm, the gourmet farm and the flower farm alike, as soon as you start having surplus goods to process there. One per farm is enough.

Is it worth upgrading

Upgrading is mainly worth it up to level 30, while you still pay in dollars – the price first jumps quickly from 100,000 to 8 million, then climbs in steps of 4 million up to 96 million, and the last two steps to 100 million go up by 2 million, a cost a running farm handles without any trouble. Higher levels mainly open up more recipes for special seeds, for example from cabbage, wheat or wildflowers, so pushing them higher only makes sense if you really do process those goods. From level 31 the payment switches to diamonds, and from level 91 the price jumps to 12,000 diamonds and more per step, which is an expense only for players who want to max everything out.
