Fields and crops on the farm
The field is the basic patch of worked ground on the main farm, and through the Sow menu you plant everything from corn and wheat to ornamental flowers and rarer plants. Alongside the classic field I can also build the Fertile field, which has a different size, price and level cap. The harvest from a field then either ends up in the windmill as animal feed, or gets sold straight away through Farm management.
I treat fields as the engine of the whole farm, because without corn, cabbage and wheat there is nothing to feed the chickens, pigs or cows. The fertile field is worth building the moment I have the Gold for it, because in time it grows to a higher level than the classic field, and production grows with it.
Fields offer two completely different kinds of seed

Clicking an empty field and choosing Sow opens the seed window. According to the game's own help, fields can be sown with field flowers, corn, cabbage, wheat, turnips and alfalfa, but the real selection is even wider.
In practice I split the crops into two groups. First come the mill crops - corn, cabbage, wheat and meadow flowers - which I either process further or sell. The second group is flowers and other plants meant as ingredients for recipes, such as violets, yellow hibiscus, rapeseed, sunflowers, roses, rice, magic beans or golden flowers. The game simply describes them as crops that grow on fields, and their source in crafting is listed as grown on a field.
The harvest ends up in the windmill or goes straight to market
Each of the four basic crops has a clearly defined purpose.
| Crop | Base selling price | Processing |
|---|---|---|
| Wheat | 300 Dollars | windmill for cow feed, or sell |
| Corn | 60 Dollars | windmill for chicken feed, or sell |
| Cabbage | 50 Dollars | windmill for pig feed, or sell |
| Meadow flowers | 10 Dollars | selling through Farm management only, cannot be milled |
Meadow flowers are the one field crop the windmill will not touch at all - according to the help it is a crop meant purely for selling through the Farm management window. That is why I sow it mainly when I need quick cash rather than feed.
The fertile field is smaller but grows to a higher level
Besides the classic field, the main farm also has the Fertile field. The differences in price, size and level cap are quite striking.
| Property | Field | Fertile field |
|---|---|---|
| Size | 8x6 | 6x4 |
| Maximum building level | 10 | 11 |
| Level 1 price | 250 Dollars | 350 Gold |
| Level 1 construction | 15 minutes | 15 minutes |
| Workers at level 1 | 10 | 10 |
| Max level price | 10000 Diamonds | 65000 Gold |
| Max level construction | 1 day 18 hours | 5 days 5 hours |
| Workers at max level | 30 | 34 |
| Max level unlock | from farmer level 119 | from farmer level 119 |
The production list at level 1 is the same for both buildings - a golden flower seed makes 10 golden flowers in 2 hours 20 minutes, a violet seed 12 violets in 45 minutes, or a yellow hibiscus seed 12 yellow hibiscus in 45 minutes. Upgrading changes that differently for each of them, though - at maximum level the Field turns the same golden flower seed into 28 golden flowers in the same 2 hours 20 minutes, while the Fertile field at its top level also offers a simple recipe for 50 Dollars that makes 25 corn in 5 minutes.
Rarer seed grows in the nursery or drops from events

Beyond the ordinary seed there are also special corn, wheat, cabbage and meadow flower seeds. According to the game's help they grow in the nursery and have a different growth speed and yield than ordinary seed - special meadow flower seeds produce up to 250 meadow flowers on a field in 30 minutes, and special wheat seeds 14 wheat in the same time.
The seed selection also has separate tabs for premium seeds, the exclusive subscription, obsidian seeds, hedgerow plant seeds and event seeds. The game itself hints that certain events occasionally hand out more valuable seed, so it pays to keep an eye on whatever is currently running.
Anyone who also plays the gourmet farm can think of the field as a garden - the garden on the gourmet farm works just like the field on the main farm, so the same sowing and harvesting logic applies there too.
