What it's for

The Rural cowshed is a basic livestock building on the Main farm that supplies you with milk and, as a by-product, manure for the silo, which are the raw materials practically the whole production cycle of the farm runs on. You feed the cows with cow feed that you grind in the windmill from wheat or alfalfa. It sits on a 5x5 plot, so it fits even on a smaller farm, and you'll find it from player level 7. It's a building for anyone who needs a steady supply of milk for contracts and manure for making fertilizer in the silo.

When to build it

The cowshed is worth building right from level 7, when you first unlock it for 2000 dollars, and right away - it's one of the basic sources of manure, without which your fertilizer production and with it your orchards grind to a halt. How many of them make sense depends on how much milk and manure you're currently using for contracts and other buildings, but as my first milk building I always build it the moment it's available.

Is it worth upgrading

Upgrading pays off gradually as the farm grows - at the top level one batch of cow feed gives 520 milk and 150 manure instead of 230 milk and 97 manure at level 1, so more than double from the same amount of input. The price climbs steeply though, from 2000 dollars at level one to 5000000 dollars at level nine, and the tenth level costs 10000 diamonds instead of dollars, so it's more of a goal for a developed farm than something to chase right away. The worker requirement also grows with the level, from 6 to 18, so keep an eye on the happiness on your farm too.

Tip from a veteran player For quick production with no waiting, use seaweed feed - it processes instantly and gives you 299 milk right away at cowshed level one, and a full 665 at level ten, which comes in handy when you need milk for a quick contract and don't want to wait for the seven-hour production from regular feed.

Most common mistake The most common mistake is feeding the cowshed at random without considering how much manure the silo currently needs - the cowshed produces manure as a by-product all the time, so with a full silo you're needlessly blocking production or losing the surplus.
