The pigsty is a solid and necessary part of the main farm, even if personally I find the chicken coop pays off a bit faster. Either way it is one of those buildings you really should not skip on your farm.

What it's for

The pigsty produces pigs and produces dung for the silo as a by-product. The feed for it can be made from cabbage or rutabaga in the mill.

Truffle

The rural pigsty is the second of the basic animal buildings on the main farm and it produces pigs, which then go on into further processing, plus manure as a by-product for the silo. You mix the pig feed in the windmill out of cabbage or turnips, so on the main farm the pigsty ties in directly with your cabbage fields. At 7x6 it takes up a bit more space than the chicken coop and the first level only unlocks at player level 7, so you build it a little later. It is a building for anyone who wants a balanced farm with all three basic animals, not just eggs.

When to build it

As soon as you hit player level 7 and have cabbage or turnips sorted out for feed, go ahead and build the pigsty - it is one of the backbone buildings of the main farm, just like the chicken coop and the cowshed. There is no point putting it off until higher levels, because you will need pigs and manure from it all game long, not just at the start.

Is it worth upgrading

It pays to judge the upgrades by output - at level 1, ten pig feed gives you 130 pigs and 33 manure in one hour ten minutes, while at level 10, the maximum, the same input over the same time gives you 235 pigs and 80 manure. That is almost double the pigs and more than double the manure in the same time, so the investment pays for itself sooner or later. Level 10 does require 10000 diamonds and player level 129 though, so it is more of a long-term goal than something for your first few weeks.

Tip from a veteran player When you need a few pigs in a hurry, say for an order, reach for pig swill - it only makes a small batch, 12 pigs and 5 manure, but it is done in 5 minutes, so it is perfect for catching up quickly instead of waiting out the full hour and ten minutes.

Most common mistake Plenty of players keep feeding the pigsty nothing but basic pig feed even though super pig feed gives more pigs in the same hour and ten minutes plus bonus XP - it is a shame not to use that edge when it costs you practically the same crops.
