What it's for

Bred in winter fields and can be made into penguin feed in the stone mill.

I raise sardines on the winter fields of the Viking farm, the Northern lights farm and the Festive farm, and in the Stone mill I grind them into Penguin feed. They're available from farmer level 30, aren't bought in the Shop, and the base value per unit is 30 Snow dollars. In the farm economy they're the input ingredient for feed; without sardines I can't feed the penguins. They're cheaper to raise than herring, which is the most striking difference between the two winter fish.

How to get it

The standard recipe for 270 Snow dollars yields 300 units in 30 minutes on a level 1 winter field and already 600 units on level 4 for the same price and time, so upgrading the field is worth it. If I have Special sardine roe, it's best used on the longer 4-hour batch, which yields 1800 to 3600 units depending on the field level. So for short log-ins I go with the 30-minute recipe for dollars, and for long absences the roe.

What to do with it

I process sardines in the Stone mill into Penguin feed.

Tip from a veteran player Before you put the roe on a 4-hour batch, check whether you'll actually be logging in again soon, in which case the quick 30-minute recipe for dollars pays off more.

Most common mistake A common mistake is leaving a field with the 30-minute recipe empty during a longer break from the game, instead of putting roe on it for the whole time you're away.
