The stone mill is a processing building that turns herring and sardines into feed for seals and penguins. It stands on the Viking farm and you can't do without it if you want to get a seal pond or a penguin pond going, because there's no other source of these feeds in the game. It takes up quite a lot of space (8x7) and needs four workers at level 1 already, so you have to make room for it in your budget as well as on the farm. It suits anyone building the Viking farm up from scratch.

When to build it

Build the mill as soon as you unlock the Viking farm, and do it before you start on the seal pond or the penguin pond – without feed both animal buildings would just stand idle anyway. One is enough, because it can make both feeds at the same time, you just have to watch that you don't run out of raw materials (herring and sardines).

Is it worth upgrading

Upgrading pays off gradually, as your animal buildings grow. At level 1 a batch of seal feed takes 4 hours and penguin feed half an hour, at the top level both times are cut in half (2 hours and 15 minutes) for the same amount of input. The price climbs sharply, though, from 15 thousand at the start up to 5 million at level 4, and instead of four workers you suddenly need thirty, so upgrade according to how fast you actually burn through the feed.

Tip from a veteran player Plan your production so the mill runs both feeds side by side – penguin feed is finished faster, so run it in the shorter gaps between logins, while you set the seal batch for the times you'll be offline longer.

Most common mistake The most common mistake is putting up a seal pond or a penguin pond before the mill has enough raw materials and capacity for the feed – then the animals stand around waiting while the mill is still working through the queue.
