Thanks to the jam from the Jam factory, pineapples have a somewhat wider use than the other exotic crops, so it pays to farm them even outside ship demand.

Pineapples are another exotic fruit from the Greenhouse, available from level 30 on the Main farm, Gourmet farm and Flower farm. Like grapefruits they cannot be sold, but you load them onto Captain Barnacle's ship when it is asking for pineapples in the harbor. Unlike grapefruits though, pineapples also have a second outlet in production, they go to the Jam factory, where they are made into Pineapple jam. That makes pineapples a bit more versatile in your economy than purely ship crops.

How to get it

The most efficient recipe is the one with Special pineapple seeds, which on the first greenhouse level gives 1088 pieces in 38 minutes, by far the highest rate of the recipes on offer. Basic Pineapple seeds produce only 48 pieces in 25 minutes, so you will use them more for quickly topping up a small amount than as your main source. Premium pineapple seeds give 5397 pieces in 5 hours, a hefty one-off batch for a long greenhouse run, even though per hour they are slower than special seeds. The special seeds first have to be produced in the Farm laboratory from pineapples themselves though, so always keep part of the harvest for reinvestment.

What to do with it

The main outlet is Captain Barnacle's ship requests in the harbor. The rest of the harvest is worth sending to the Farm laboratory to make Special pineapple seeds for the next round of growing, or to the Jam factory for Pineapple jam if you need a processed product.
