What it's for

Grows in winter fields and can be made into viking gear in the viking workshop.

Flax is a basic raw material I grow on the winter fields of the Viking farm and the Northern lights farm, and in the Viking workshop I sew Viking gear from it. It's available from farmer level 30, can't be bought in the Shop, and the base value per unit is 50 Snow dollars. In the farm economy it serves as the key input for the whole set of Viking clothing, so without it the workshop stands idle. Unlike the special seeds for exotic fruit, it can be grown over and over directly for the winter farm's currency.

How to get it

The fastest option is the standard recipe for 135 Snow dollars, which in 15 minutes yields 90 flax on a level 1 winter field and up to 180 on level 4, so a higher field level pays off; the yield for the same price keeps improving. When I have Special flax seeds, it's worth using them on the long 8-hour batch, which yields 2160 to 4320 units depending on the field level, ideal overnight or when I won't be at the game for a while. So for short log-ins I go with the 15-minute recipe, and for long absences the special seeds.

What to do with it

I process flax in the Viking workshop into the Cozy Viking cloak, the Mighty Viking helmet, the Rustic Viking tankard and the Stylish Viking tunic.

Tip from a veteran player Upgrading the winter field is worth it for flax, because the same 135 Snow dollars will bring you twice as much flax at level 4 as at level 1.

Most common mistake Don't leave a field running the short 15-minute recipe overnight; it would sit empty most of the time, while in the same period you'd harvest far more with the special seeds.
