Viking workshop

Production Northern lights farm

The Viking workshop is a nice bonus for collectors and for quest goals, but it isn't essential to the everyday running of the Northern lights farm. I'd only look at upgrading it once the more important production buildings are sorted.

What it's for

The viking workshop lets you make real viking gear using products from this farm!

Produces

The Viking workshop is a processing building on the Northern lights farm, where you use flax, wood, berries and sheep's wool to sew and forge four pieces of Viking gear - a cloak, a helmet, a tankard and a tunic. It isn't a building that keeps the farm running day to day, it's more a source of items for quests and collection goals tied to the Viking theme. It takes up an 8x7 area, so you'll need to find a proper spot for it. It's mainly for players who already have a steady supply of flax, wood and berries on the Northern lights farm and want to put it to good use.

When to build it

You can't buy the workshop in the shop for money, you get it another way - usually by completing a quest, by unlocking the Northern lights farm or through an event. Once you have it, it pays to put it to work right away, because materials like flax, wood, berries and sheep's wool are produced by other buildings on the farm anyway and would otherwise just pile up in storage. One per farm is all you need, and you can't build another one.

Is it worth upgrading

Upgrading the workshop from level 1 to 4 doesn't increase how many items you get, but it cuts the production time by up to half - a cloak drops from eight hours to four and a tunic from an hour to half an hour. The catch is what that benefit costs, because level 3 runs to 2,500,000 and level 4 a full 15,000,000 snow dollars, plus 30 and 45 workers respectively. That's a lot for a side building, so upgrading only makes sense once your Northern lights farm is up and running and you have workers and money to spare.

Tip from a veteran player If flax is piling up in storage and you want to turn it into something quickly, it's worth churning out the stylish Viking tunic - 360 flax gives you 30 of them and they're done in an hour, so you can even squeeze a batch into a shorter play session.
Most common mistake The most common mistake is rushing into upgrading the workshop as soon as you get it, without having enough spare workers on the farm - the extra dozens of workers the higher levels demand then leave you short-handed everywhere else.
