What it's for
The viking workshop lets you make real viking gear using products from this farm!
Produces
The Viking workshop is an 8x7 production building on the Viking farm where you turn the farm's raw materials - flax, wood, berries and sheep's wool - into Viking clothing and gear, specifically the cloak, helmet, tankard and tunic. You don't buy it in the shop, you get it another way, typically through a quest or by unlocking the farm. In the farm's economy it's second-stage processing - you take basic materials and turn them into more valuable goods, so the workshop only makes sense once you have a decent surplus of inputs. It's for players who have the Viking farm up and running and don't want to just sell off their flax, wood, berries and sheep's wool.
When to build it
You don't get the workshop by buying it, you reach it once you meet the farm's requirement - and as soon as you have it, level one already needs 5 workers, so keep them free in advance. It's worth firing it up straight away, happily on the cheaper tunic or tankard, which need the fewest materials. One workshop is enough, you can't build a second one and there'd be no point anyway.
Is it worth upgrading
Upgrading the workshop pays off, because it doesn't increase the material cost or the batch size, it cuts production time by up to half - the cloak drops from 8 hours to 4, the helmet from 4 to 2, the tankard from 2 to 1 and the tunic from an hour to half an hour. You'll pay more and more for that, from 400 thousand snow dollars at level two up to 15 million at level four, and the worker requirement jumps from 5 to 45. So it pays to upgrade gradually as your input production and your pool of free workers grow, not in a rush.
