Dye factory – Goodgame Big FarmDye factory – Level 1

Dye factory

Production Gourmet farm

The Dye factory is a cheap and handy little building for side production of dyes, but it is not where I would send my dollars for upgrades first.

What it's for

The dye factory produces a variety of natural dyes.

Produces

The Dye factory is a small 7x6 production building on the Gourmet farm that turns beetroot, red cabbage and onions into six kinds of dye - red, blue, yellow, orange, purple and green. It is more of a support building for the crafting recipes that consume dye than a main source of income, because the batches are small, usually just 5 units of dye. You can buy it in the Shop and the first level is dirt cheap - 10,000 dollars and only four workers from player level 19, so practically anyone who unlocks the Gourmet farm can afford it. It suits players who want their own source of dye for recipes instead of buying or trading for it.

When to build it

It is worth building right after you unlock the Gourmet farm, because the entry cost is negligible and the ingredients, meaning beetroot, red cabbage and onions, are things you normally have from your own fields. Given the small 7x6 footprint and the low price I see no reason to put it off, even if you only use it now and then at first.

Is it worth upgrading

Here I have to be straight with you - for all six dyes the ingredient consumption, the production time and the output stay exactly the same at the top eighth level as they are at level one. Upgrading therefore does not improve the yield of the recipes at all, and on top of that it demands more and more workers, from 4 at level one up to 52 at level eight, so it actually takes free hands away from you. You unlock the higher levels gradually as your player level rises anyway, and the eighth one only comes up at 142. If all you care about is the ingredient to dye ratio, there is no rush to upgrade.

Tip from a veteran player Do not treat this building as an upgrade priority - point your dollars at buildings where a higher level really does raise production, and leave the Dye factory at a low level so it does not tie up workers you can put to better use elsewhere.
Most common mistake Plenty of players expect an upgrade to raise dye yields the way it does in other processing buildings, but I do not see any such increase in the game for a single one of the six dyes - ingredients, time and output all stay identical.
