What it's for

You can use special seeds in the greenhouse to breed exotic fruits, which you can then load onto Captain Barnacle's ship when he docks in the harbor and asks for them.

Special grapefruit seeds are made in the Farm laboratory, and in the Greenhouse I breed exotic grapefruits from them for Captain Barnacle's ship. Like the other special seeds they can't be bought in the Shop, they unlock at farmer level 30 and are grown on the Main farm, the Gourmet farm and the Flower farm. The base value per unit is 2550 Gold, roughly double the lime seeds, and the more demanding recipe reflects that. In the farm economy they serve purely as the input for exotic fruit going into the harbor trade.

How to get it

The laboratory recipe is 17 Ordinary catalysts and 1 regular Grapefruit for 1 unit of seeds, and production takes 2 minutes and 50 seconds. Just like with the lime seeds, the ratio and time are identical at every laboratory level from 7 to 20, so a higher building level won't speed this recipe up at all. Since buying in the Shop isn't possible, I rely solely on my stock of catalyst and grapefruits.

What to do with it

I use the seeds in the Greenhouse to grow exotic grapefruits, which I then bring to Captain Barnacle's ship when it docks in the Harbor.

Tip from a veteran player Keep a small extra reserve of grapefruits as the input ingredient, because the double catalyst consumption compared to limes can empty your storage faster than you expect.

Most common mistake A common one is planning grapefruit seed production the same way as limes and underestimating that it uses more than twice as much catalyst per unit.
