What it's for
Alpaca feed is made from pasture grass in the sugar mill. Sugar beets and sugar cane are processed into ingredients for the candy factory here.
Produces
The sugar factory is a processing building on the Candy farm that turns three different raw materials into three different products, nutritious grass into alpaca feed, sugar beet into syrup and sugar cane into sugar. According to the building description, syrup and sugar are ingredients for the candy factory, so the sugar factory stands in the middle of the production chain between the fields and the final candy production. It's fairly compact (6x5 tiles) and cheap at the first level (32000 sugar dollars), so it's one of the first processing buildings you'll put up on the Candy farm. It suits anyone who wants their own source of alpaca feed and of raw materials for the candy factory, instead of buying the materials in.
When to build it
The building has only one level. Put it up as soon as you have enough sugar beet, sugar cane and nutritious grass on the farm to feed it, the first level is cheap (32000 sugar dollars), it takes just 20 minutes to build and according to the game it doesn't require any particular player level. There's no point waiting, because without the sugar factory the crops from your fields just pile up and you get no syrup or sugar for the candy factory. One per farm is enough until you regularly have surpluses of input materials that the sugar factory can't keep up with.
Is it worth upgrading
The interesting thing about the sugar factory is that upgrading doesn't increase the number of items produced, at the first and the last level alike you get the same 10 alpaca feed, 66 syrup and 60 sugar per production run. What upgrading does change is the time and the raw material consumption, alpaca feed production drops from 3 hours to 30 minutes, syrup from 5 hours to 3 minutes and sugar from an hour and a half to a minute, and on top of that the consumption of input materials falls slightly as well, with cane going all the way from 60 to 30 per batch. So upgrading pays off for anyone who wants to get their products faster out of the same amount of raw materials, not for a bigger yield.
