What it's for

The silo makes dung into winter fertilizer. This is used to fertilize the orchards and pastures on your northern lights farm.

Produces

The silo is a processing building that turns manure into winter fertilizer. It stands on the Northern lights farm and you'll find it on the Festive farm as well. You then use winter fertilizer on your orchards and pastures, because the tree grove, the berry orchard and the sheep pasture all need it. Without a silo you won't get any follow-up production of wood, berries or wool off the ground. It suits anyone who wants to grow more than just the basic resources on the Northern lights farm.

When to build it

Build the silo the moment you start keeping animals that produce manure and want to put it to sensible use, otherwise the manure just piles up and goes nowhere. One silo is enough in the vast majority of cases, because the limit isn't its capacity but how much manure your animals can actually produce. It pays to have it running practically from the moment you start building up the Northern lights farm, because three different orchards all consume the processed fertilizer.

Is it worth upgrading

Upgrading the silo is worth it, because the production time drops from 20 minutes at level 1 to 10 minutes at max level for the same batch of 200 manure into 10 winter fertilizer. That means double the throughput without having to build a second silo. The price climbs steeply, from 25,000 all the way to 6,500,000 Snow dollars, and so do the worker requirements, which jump to 30, so upgrade gradually as the amount of manure you have to process grows.

Tip from a veteran player Keep an eye on how much manure your animals actually deliver, there's no point upgrading the silo to a higher level if you can't keep it fed with enough manure anyway.
Most common mistake Players often forget that a higher silo level also raises the worker requirement, up to 30 at max level, and end up blocking the upgrade because they don't have enough free workers on the farm.
