What it's for

Use winter fertilizer to grow trees and collect plant debris as a by-product. Winter fertilizer is made with dung from the animals.

Produces

The tree grove is an orchard on the Viking farm where winter fertilizer makes trees grow, and you harvest wood from them along with plant remains as a side resource for compost. It sits at the end of the farm's production cycle, because you first have to make the fertilizer out of animal dung in the silo. It suits anyone who needs their own source of wood on the Viking farm and doesn't want to rely purely on gathering it elsewhere. It takes up an 8x8 area, so you need to find room for it while you're still planning your farm layout.

When to build it

It makes sense to build it as soon as you get the silo running and have a steady supply of winter fertilizer, because without fertilizer the grove just stands there and produces nothing. One is enough if you use wood only now and then, a second one pays off once you're building several buildings at a time and keep running short. The four levels are neither expensive nor time-consuming, the longest build takes just under seven hours, so there's no point leaving it at the lowest level for long.

Is it worth upgrading

Upgrading pays off at first glance, because every level adds another 50 wood and 10 plant remains from one batch of fertilizer - at level one you get 150 wood and 30 plant remains out of 10 fertilizer, at level four the same batch gives you 300 wood and 60 plant remains, and all in the same hour of production. At max level you get double out of the grove without waiting longer or putting in more fertilizer.

Tip from a veteran player The event seaweed fertilizer gives you 30% more wood than ordinary winter fertilizer and it's done instantly on top of that, so use it first whenever you have some and save the regular fertilizer for everyday running.
Most common mistake The most common mistake is leaving the grove empty because you forget to restock fertilizer from the silo - the grove produces nothing by itself and without raw material it just takes up valuable space on the farm.
