Trawler – Goodgame Big FarmTrawler – Level 1

Trawler

Special buildings Fishing area

I consider the trawler the most powerful of the three boats, but it demands space, time and a high player level. It's worth building later on, not as the first fishing boat on your farm.

What it's for

When it comes to large scale fishing, nothing compares to the old-fashioned trawler. This boat will maximize your chances of a successful day of fishing.

Produces

The trawler is the biggest and most demanding of the three boats in the Fishing area, and with its 4×9 fields it takes up more room than the punt and the houseboat. The first level costs you 2 000 000 dollars and, like the other boats, it eats corn from your fields and turns it into the same range of seafood from oysters to swordfish. It produces in noticeably bigger batches, 124 units at the first level, so it's meant for players with an established farm and a higher level who want to fish on a grand scale. Between its size and the upgrade prices it's clearly a boat for a later stage of the game, not your first fishing building.

When to build it

The trawler can be built at level one with no player level requirement, but its upgrades are set at fairly high player levels, from 124 for the second level up to 144 for the sixth, so it's a boat for an advanced farm rather than for the start. It's worth building once you have enough room for its wider footprint and enough corn to make the long, almost day-long production cycles worthwhile. Smaller farms often get more out of two Norfolk punts on the same area than out of one trawler, which simply won't fit into the same space.

Is it worth upgrading

Upgrading pushes production from 124 units at level one up to 341 units at level six with the oyster, mussel and prawn recipe, which is the biggest jump of all three boats. The upgrade price grows enormously, from 3 200 000 at the second level up to 52 536 000 dollars at level six, so taking the trawler to the maximum is a long-term goal rather than a quick investment. Since the higher levels wait for the matching player level anyway, it pays to upgrade steadily as your dollars and your level allow, instead of saving up for one big investment.

Tip from a veteran player Because of that large footprint I'd only place the trawler once I'm sure I won't have to clear the spot again in a few days for another building – moving a building costs extra time and dollars.
Most common mistake An early mistake I keep seeing is building the trawler the moment it shows up in the shop, even when you're dozens of player levels short of its upgrades – the boat then sits at level one for ages and never uses its main strength, the high capacity at higher levels.
