Fishing area – Goodgame Big Farm

Fishing area

Special buildings Fishing area

The Fishing area is a nice change of pace outside the classic farming cycle, but as a building it doesn't offer much, because it can't be upgraded and you can't build anything extra on it. I take it as a bonus to the fishing minigame, not as part of the farm's economic strategy.

What it's for

Fish gather in large groups for protection, meaning you can often find a variety of different species gathered in one fishing area.

The Fishing area is a spot on your farm where you grab your fishing gear and head out to fish with Oleg. Because fish stick together in big shoals in the wild, you'll usually find several species in one place, so it pays to bring a varied kit along. It isn't a production building in the classic sense - you don't produce anything into storage here, you just collect the catches from the fishing minigame. It only takes up 1x1 of space, so you'll barely notice it on the farm. It suits anyone who wants to try a bit of fishing outside the usual farming cycle.

When to build it

You can't buy the Fishing area in the shop - you get it for completing a quest, for unlocking a farm or during an event, so getting hold of it isn't really your decision. Once you have it, it pays to start using it right away, because the fishing itself doesn't cost any ordinary resources, just your time and your gear. There's no point waiting for it or planning ahead for it, just use it as soon as it shows up on your farm. You don't pick how many you get either, you get as many as the game hands you for that farm.

Is it worth upgrading

The Fishing area has only one level and can't be upgraded, so you won't find an Upgrade button on it. What affects its performance instead is the gear you take from the fishing shop - rod, line, hook and other extras, which you can swap even while you're fishing. Better and more varied equipment raises your chance of a catch and of rarer species of fish, while worn out gear has to be replaced as you go. So what's in your tackle box matters more than anything on the building itself.

Tip from a veteran player Before you head out fishing, check in the fishing shop whether any of your gear is worn out - you'd lose a quality catch over a little thing you could have topped up beforehand.
Most common mistake The most common mistake is expecting to buy the Fishing area like any other building in the shop - since it isn't there, players hunt for it in vain or think they haven't unlocked it yet, when all it takes is completing the right quest or event.
