Skipjack – Goodgame Big FarmSkipjack – Level 1

Skipjack

Special buildings Fishing area

I see the fishing houseboat as a good choice for players who want less hassle and one solid catch a day. If you play actively and collect goods several times a day, the cheaper punt can work out more efficient.

What it's for

The skipjack may not be the most common boat out at sea, but it's surely one of the most stylish and it is also very efficient when it comes to fishing.

Produces

The fishing houseboat is the middle one of the three big fishing boats in the Fishing area, and the thing that tells it apart from the Norfolk punt at first glance is mainly the price – the first level costs you 2 500 000 dollars instead of 1 500 000. Just like the punt it runs on corn from your fields and turns it into the same wide range of seafood, from oysters to swordfish. It takes up the same 3×9 footprint, but it produces in far bigger batches at once, 97 units of goods at the first level instead of 54. It suits players who don't want to check on their boat several times a day and would rather wait for one big catch.

When to build it

The houseboat can be built right from level one with no player level requirement, but its upgrades are tied to a higher player level – the second level asks for level 79 and the sixth for 99, so you'll only grow into using it fully in the later stages of the game. It's worth building once you have enough corn to keep feeding production cycles of around 24 hours, otherwise it will just stand there unused most of the time. How many you can fit side by side depends on the free space in the area, three by nine fields fits almost anywhere.

Is it worth upgrading

Upgrading makes sense, because the output grows from 97 units at level one up to 260 at level six, while consumption stays at a single corn per cycle. At the same time the production time gets longer, from just under 24 hours at level one to over a day at level six, so the real gain in efficiency per hour isn't as dramatic as with the punt. It pays to take the upgrades gradually as your player level grows, because you won't get any further without them anyway.

Tip from a veteran player Set the houseboat to a recipe that matches the rhythm of your logins – I start mine in the evening and collect the catch at the same time the next day, so the boat doesn't sit around finished and idle.
Most common mistake I think players often compare the houseboat with the punt by batch size alone and miss that the much longer production cycle can mean fewer goods per hour – it pays to do the math for your own needs instead of just going by the 97 or 260 on the screen.
