Orchards Candy farm

A quality source of cocoa beans for the crushing mill, but its price and worker count make it a building you add later rather than your first purchase.

What it's for

You can use sugar dollars to grow cocoa beans in this orchard, and as a by-product you will receive sweet leaves for the composter.

Produces

The cocoa orchard is the most expensive and most demanding of the three orchards on the Candy farm. It grows cocoa beans, which the crushing mill then turns into cocoa powder, and as a by-product you once again get sweet leaves for the composter. The first level alone costs 80000 sugar dollars and needs 9 workers, at the fourth level it's already 27 workers. You start production the same way as at the other orchards, either with gold or sugar dollars for a 6 hour run, or instantly with the seaweed action fertilizer and a bonus of 3000 XP. It's a building for players who already have the Candy farm up and running and want to supply cocoa powder to the rest of their production.

When to build it

I'd build the cocoa orchard third in line, after the cherry and almond orchards, because it's noticeably more expensive (80000 sugar dollars) and needs more workers than both of the previous orchards, even though according to the game it doesn't require any particular player level. It's worth building once you also have the crushing mill going and want your own source of cocoa beans instead of buying them. One is enough at the start, because the 6 hour production at the first level gives 125 cocoa beans, which should cover normal mill operation.

Is it worth upgrading

Between the 1st and the 4th level the cocoa bean yield grows from 125 to 1000, so eight times more, while the leaves only go from 34 to 102, roughly triple, in the same 6 hours. The upgrade price shoots up sharply though, from 1550000 to 2700000 sugar dollars between the 3rd and the 4th level alone, and the worker count with it from 21 to 27, so upgrade gradually and keep an eye on worker satisfaction so your running costs don't go up.

Tip from a veteran player Before you upgrade to a higher level, work out whether you can absorb the jump in workers, at the fourth level the orchard needs 27 of them, and without enough housing and decorations on the farm unhappiness can push your production costs up.
Most common mistake Players often take the cocoa orchard as the first orchard they build, because cocoa sounds tempting, but with its high price and worker requirements it's the most expensive of the three orchards and it doesn't pay off without an established farm.
