What it's for

Soybeans grow on fields and can be turned into soybean meal in the mill.

Soy is one of the main crops you grow on a field, fertile field or wintry fertile field on the main farm. On its own it is just a raw material for further processing. You can sell it directly, but its real value is as an input for the mill and for making special seeds. Without soy, both your soy flour production and your own seed cycle grind to a halt. It is a crop you will be planting on your farm pretty much constantly.

How to get it

The most common way is to plant it for money. As your field levels up, the same amount of money yields more and more units (47 per hour at level 1, and 72 at level 5). If you have special soy seeds on hand, it pays to use them instead of money. The harvest takes only 20 minutes, and even with the lower number of units, you get more soy per hour than by planting the usual way. Buying it in the shop only makes sense in an emergency, when you need soy right now and none of your fields are ready to harvest.

What to do with it

I mostly send soy to the windmill or its efficient version, where it is milled into soy flour for the pigsty. I keep a smaller share for the nursery or farm laboratory, where it is turned into special soy seeds. That closes the loop and makes the next planting faster.

Tip from a veteran player It pays to always have a few plots planted for money and a few for seeds, so you never run completely out of soy even when you have no seeds available at the moment.

Most common mistake The most common mistake is to leave your special seeds sitting in storage and keep planting fields for money only, needlessly missing out on the faster harvest.
