The Rural apple orchard is the basic fruit orchard on the Main farm - it grows apples from the fertilizer in your silo and drops leaves for the composter as a by-product. The orchard sits on a 6x6 plot and you'll find it from player level 7, so it's among the first orchards you'll build on your farm. You process the apples further in the bakery or sell them, and the leaves fill your composter for further raw materials. It's a building for anyone who has fertilizer production running in the silo and wants to put it to good use.

When to build it

It's worth building right from level 7, as soon as you have enough manure in the silo for fertilizer - it's the cheapest way into apple production on the farm. How many you'll need depends on how many apples you use in the bakery and for contracts, but I build the first one as soon as it's available, because without an orchard the fertilizer just sits in the silo.

Is it worth upgrading

Upgrading pays off because the yield from one batch of seaweed fertilizer goes from 423 apples at level 1 to 900 apples at the top level, so more than double from the same amount of input, and leaf production rises the same way from 8 to 16. The upgrade price climbs steeply though, from 2000 dollars at level 1 to 5000000 dollars at level 9, along with the worker requirement (from 4 to 14) and the player level, where the eighth level wants level 68 and the final ninth level as much as level 129. It pays to bring the orchard up gradually as you grow rather than leaving it behind, because the difference in yield is noticeable.

Tip from a veteran player If you have speedy fertilizer on hand, use it when you need a small batch of apples quickly - it's ready in under an hour instead of three, even though the yield per unit of input is lower than with regular fertilizer.

Most common mistake Players often leave this orchard at a low level while building extra orchards on top - given how much the upgrades raise the yield per batch of fertilizer, it's often better to have fewer orchards at a higher level than more orchards at a low one.
