What it's for

Penguins are bred in the penguin pool. They need penguin feed, which is made using sardines in the stone mill.

The penguin pond is where you turn penguin feed from the stone mill into penguins, with manure as a by-product. It's the smaller and faster of the two water animals on the Northern lights farm - one batch takes just an hour, far less than the seal pond. It takes up a compact 6x6 tiles, so it fits even on a crowded farm. It suits players who want an animal with a short production cycle that they can come back to even during shorter breaks in play.

When to build it

First you need penguin feed production running in the stone mill, otherwise the pond just sits there unused. Given the small footprint and the reasonable price of the first level (25,000 and an hour and a half of building time), I put it up as soon as the mill is finished. One pond per farm is enough, since you can still start production over and over during the day.

Is it worth upgrading

Upgrading pays off, because the output doubles for the same feed cost and the same hour of production - from 900 penguins and 300 manure at level 1 you get up to 1,800 penguins and 600 manure at maximum. The prices climb gradually from 100,000 through 500,000 to 2,500,000, so I can upgrade as I go depending on how many workers and how much money I happen to have free.

Tip from a veteran player If you come across the seaweed feed special offer, use it here first - it gives more penguins and more experience points than ordinary penguin feed, and it's finished instantly on top of that.

Most common mistake Players often leave the pond standing empty for ages, because they forget that an hourly cycle has to be started by hand far more often than the eight-hour production over at the seals - without checking in regularly the pond spends more time idle than working.
