What it's for

Penguins are bred in the penguin pool. They need penguin feed, which is made using sardines in the stone mill.

The penguin pond is an animal building where penguin feed is turned into penguins and, as a by-product, into manure for the silo. The feed comes from the stone mill, made out of sardines, so the two buildings are closely tied together. At 6x6 and with lower worker demands (5 to 20) it's one of the cheaper animal buildings on the Viking farm and one of the quickest to get running. It suits players who are only just building the Viking farm and want to kick-start the animal economy fast.

When to build it

Build it right after the stone mill, because of the two Viking animal buildings it's the cheaper one both to buy (25 thousand at the start) and to build (an hour and a half). One is all you need, after that you simply upgrade it to higher levels.

Is it worth upgrading

Upgrades don't shorten the production time here – an hour stays an hour even at the top level – but they double the output, from 900 to 1800 penguins and from 300 to 600 manure in the same time and from the same batch of feed. That's a pure efficiency gain, so upgrading pays off as soon as you have the workers and the money for it.

Tip from a veteran player If you have special seaweed feed on hand, use that first – it produces penguins practically instantly and gives a lot more experience than normal or premium feed.

Most common mistake Players often forget that the pond specifically needs penguin feed from the mill, not feed in general – with no stock of the raw material the pond just stands there empty.
