What it's for
The silo makes dung into winter fertilizer. This is used to fertilize the orchards and pastures on your viking farm.
Produces
The silo processes manure from both Viking animal buildings into winter fertilizer, which you then spread on the orchards and pastures on the Viking farm. It's the link between the animal and the crop side of the farm, and without it the manure just piles up and no fertilizer ever appears. At 8x5 and with growing worker demands (6 to 30) it's one of the mid-range processing buildings.
When to build it
Build it at the same time as your first animal building, ideally before you get the seal pond going – that one alone churns out 2400 manure or more per batch, and without a silo it would just pile up unused. One silo is enough, after that you simply upgrade it.
Is it worth upgrading
Upgrades work differently here than on the animal buildings – the output stays the same (200 manure into 10 fertilizer), but the production time is cut in half, from 20 minutes at level 1 to 10 minutes at the top level. It pays off above all when manure from the seal pond builds up faster than the silo can process it.
