The ostrich pen is an animal building on the Obsidian farm where you turn ostrich feed from the feed preparation plant into ostriches, with obsidian manure as a by-product. It takes up a serious chunk of land, 11x10, and like the other buildings it unlocks at player level 114. Unlike the orchards and fields, you don't pour dollars or Gold straight into production here, but you do need feed ready. It's a building for players who want a steady source of manure and ostriches on the Obsidian farm and have their feed production sorted elsewhere.

When to build it

Build it as soon as you have ostrich feed production sorted in the feed preparation plant - without feed the pen just takes up space for nothing. One is enough at first, add a second once you need more obsidian manure or ostriches than a single pen can deliver.

Is it worth upgrading

One batch of 10 units of feed gives you 68 ostriches and 51 obsidian manure in 3 hours 20 minutes, and that's the same at level 1 and at level 6. The upgrade cost in between rises from 10000 to 1 600 000 obsidian dollars, construction stretches from 1 hour 18 minutes to one day and fourteen hours, and the workers needed to run it go up from 6 to 16. So just like with the fields and orchards, upgrading doesn't mean more goods per batch, only a more expensive and slower road to a higher player level.

Tip from a veteran player Keep an eye on your ostrich feed stock ahead of time - one batch eats 10 units in just under three and a half hours, so without ongoing production in the feed preparation plant your pen will stand empty most of the time.
