What it's for

Special rye seeds are grown in the conservatory and have a growth rate and yield amount that is different from the normal seeds.

Special rye seed is an alternative to ordinary rye seed that you grow in the winter garden on the Obsidian farm. It differs from the classic seed in growth speed and in yields, so you use it to adjust both the pace and the amount of rye that then grows on your volcanic field. In the farming cycle it's only an intermediate step - it isn't sold on its own, it's just planted on. You can't get it in the shop, it's purely a production good.

How to get it

The only way to get it is by producing it in the winter garden, the game offers no other route. The recipe is the same at every level of the building - three goods in a ratio of 6 to 50 to 10 units are turned by the winter garden into 2 units of special rye seed in 30 minutes. Because of that low yield, count on needing several batches in a row to sow a bigger volcanic field.

What to do with it

Plant special rye seed on the volcanic field, or on its upgraded version, the fertile volcanic field, where it grows into rye. Don't send it anywhere else, further processing or selling is out of the question for it.

Tip from a veteran player I keep the winter garden running all the time, rather than starting it only when I need the rye seed right away to sow a field.

Most common mistake The most common mistake is not allowing for the long lead time - when you try to sow a whole field at the last minute, you find out that two units from one batch are nowhere near enough.
