It's an unassuming but crucial building, because it decides how fast the cooperative can afford to fund the rest of the village, and that's why it should be among the first priorities in its development.

What it's for

Here you can exchange dollars for village dollars.

The village bank works as a one-way exchange office in the cooperative village, where your ordinary farm dollars are converted into village dollars. Village dollars are the currency you use in the village to pay for producing raw materials, that is sowing on the village field and meadow and running both village factories, so the bank is essentially the source of money for the entire rest of the village economy. It's fairly small at just 8×6 tiles and, unlike the factories, it produces nothing and consumes no materials, it only converts one currency into the other. It's useful to every cooperative member who wants to contribute to the shared buildings, because without village dollars you can't produce the materials the village is built from.

When to build it

The bank isn't bought in the shop, the cooperative gets it when founding or developing the village, but once you have it, it's one of the few buildings where I'd recommend not pushing the factories first and going straight for it instead. The reason is simple, a better exchange rate makes financing absolutely everything else in the village cheaper, so an investment in the bank feeds back into developing the factories and the job center too. The lower levels are available fairly early, but the full table has 50 steps and for the end you need a player around level 260. The bank is also the only one of its kind in the village and its level is shared by the whole cooperative.

Is it worth upgrading

Upgrading has a straightforward and measurable effect here, at the first level you get 115 village dollars for 100 dollars, at the maximum fiftieth level it's already 400 village dollars for the same 100 dollars, more than triple the return on the same deposit. Because village dollars pay for all production of village raw materials, which are then used for building and upgrading, a better exchange rate shows up in how fast everything else develops. Upgrade costs climb steadily and start to include an ever more varied mix of materials, and the build time goes from hours at the lower levels up to 8 days at the highest step. It's exactly this multiplier effect on the whole village economy that makes upgrading the bank one of the most rewarding investments you'll make in the village.

Tip from a veteran player Before you start upgrading the factories or the job center in a big way, try pushing a few bank levels first, a better rate will then save you village dollars on everything you build afterwards.

Most common mistake Players often underestimate the bank because it produces nothing on its own and doesn't look as important as the factories, but in reality a poor exchange rate slows down the pace at which the cooperative can afford to build and upgrade everything else.
