What it's for

A fancy house accommodates more workers than a simple house. Its luxury also makes your workers happier.

The fancy house does the same job as the regular house, giving workers a home on the Viking farm, but it holds significantly more of them for the same dissatisfaction. While a regular house at level one adds 8 residents for -50 dissatisfaction, the fancy version at the same level adds 15 residents for that same -50, which makes it clearly more efficient in terms of people per point of dissatisfaction. It's bought with gold rather than farm dollars, so it's a premium alternative to the regular house. It takes up the same 7x7 area.

When to build it

It's worth building when you want to add a lot of workers but don't want to push dissatisfaction up with that many separate regular houses. You don't have to wait for any particular farm level, it's more about weighing up whether you have enough gold to pick this premium version over the classic house. One of them can replace practically two regular houses in terms of residents per unit of dissatisfaction.

Is it worth upgrading

Upgrading makes sense, because capacity grows from 15 residents at level one up to 33 at level four, while dissatisfaction only rises from -50 to -65, so just as gradually as with the regular house but from a far higher base of residents. The upgrade prices in gold are noticeable, so it's a good idea to upgrade gradually rather than rushing straight to the maximum.

Tip from a veteran player If you're weighing up whether to spend gold on a fancy house or put up one more regular house, do the math on residents per point of dissatisfaction - the fancy house always comes out better on that ratio.
Most common mistake The mistake is buying a fancy house on impulse just because it's available for gold, without considering that the same number of workers often comes cheaper through more regular houses plus happiness decorations.
