What it's for

Your industrious workers eat and sleep in the simple house. New houses increase the number of workers, but cause unhappiness.

The house is the basic building for housing workers and you simply can't run a farm without it. It produces nothing itself, but it's the backbone of the whole economy – every production or processing building needs workers, and this is where they live. It stands on the main farm, the gourmet farm and the flower farm, so you'll be building it over and over on each of them separately. The more houses you have, the more workers you get, but dissatisfaction on the farm rises with them and pushes up your production costs. It's a building for every single player without exception, the only question is how many you need and how far you upgrade them.

When to build it

You don't buy this building in the shop, you get it by completing a quest, unlocking a farm or through an event, so the first one simply arrives as you progress. After that the only question is how many more houses you want and at what level – go by how many workers you currently need for the production and processing buildings you're setting up. There's no point building or upgrading a house ahead of time as a reserve, because every extra worker immediately knocks down satisfaction and raises your production costs. It's better to add houses gradually, just before you actually staff a new building.

Is it worth upgrading

Upgrading raises the number of residents in the house – from 11 at level one up to 59 at level ten – so every level gives you real extra workers. You pay for that in dissatisfaction, which grows even faster than capacity, from minus 35 all the way to minus 260 at level ten. Prices jump sharply between levels, from 10 thousand dollars at level two up to 42 million at level ten, and a single level near the end takes over three days to build. It pays to upgrade gradually as your player level and your need for workers grow, rather than leaping straight to the maximum.

Tip from a veteran player Before you upgrade or demolish a house, work out your satisfaction in advance – you can only tear it down if you have enough free unassigned workers to cover what the house holds, so keep a reserve of idle people on the farm.
Most common mistake The most common mistake is upgrading houses blindly for more workers while neglecting fancy houses or decorations that bring dissatisfaction down – the farm then has plenty of workers, but dissatisfaction makes production needlessly expensive.
