What it's for

The dockyard is where you can buy, upgrade and equip boats to send on deep sea fishing trips. Be sure to build yourself a big fleet so you can explore what the surrounding waters have to offer!

The dockyard on the Flower farm isn't a classic production building but a gateway to fishing – it opens up the boat shop where you buy and upgrade the likes of the Norfolk punt, the fishing houseboat or the trawler, and stock up on the gear you need for your fishing trips. At 9×11 fields it's one of the bigger buildings on the farm, but it doesn't produce anything or use up any goods itself. You won't get it from the shop like an ordinary building, the dockyard comes to you another way, typically by completing a quest or unlocking the farm in question. It suits anyone who wants to get fishing started on the Flower farm and have a fleet of their own.

When to build it

Since the dockyard can't be bought for dollars, the question isn't when to build it but when you meet the condition for getting it, whether that's a quest or unlocking the farm. Once you do have it, it pays to head straight into the boat shop and pick up your first boat, so those 9×11 fields on your farm aren't taken up by a building that does nothing. Set the space aside for it before you start putting up other big buildings around it.

Is it worth upgrading

The dockyard itself can't be upgraded, it only has one single level. How much good it does you isn't decided by its level but by what you buy and upgrade through it – the individual fishing boats in the Fishing area and your fishing equipment. So look for the real progress in the boats themselves and their levels, not in the dockyard building.

Tip from a veteran player Before you jump into buying your first boat, I'd go through the equipment on offer in the dockyard – I always like to have a better rod, line and hook ready in advance, so my first trip out to sea isn't stuck with basic gear.

Most common mistake An early mistake I've seen from other players is waiting for the dockyard like an ordinary shop building and saving up dollars for it for nothing – since you get it a different way, that time is better spent on the quest or on unlocking the farm that leads to it.
