What it's for
The composter makes sweet leaves into sweet soil. Sweet soil increases the harvest from a sugar field when used on that field.
The composter is a processing building on the Candy farm that turns sweet leaves into sweet soil. Used on a sown sugar field, it raises your harvest yield, so it works much like fertilizer, but only for this one farm. It takes up 5x5 tiles and you buy it straight from the shop. It suits anyone growing crops on the sugar field who wants to get more raw material out of it without a big investment.
When to build it
It's worth building as soon as you have sweet leaf collecting going on the Candy farm and want to squeeze more out of the sugar field than it gives on its own. At level one the build takes just 18 minutes and only needs five farmhands, so it's a cheap and quick investment. One was completely enough for me, because sweet soil gets used up gradually on individual fields, not all at once across the whole farm.
Is it worth upgrading
Upgrading pays off mainly for the speed, not the amount, the output stays at one sweet soil per batch even at max level, but sweet leaf consumption drops from 80 to 60 and the production time shortens from 4 hours to just 20 minutes. At a high level you can make sweet soil far more often and far more cheaply.
