What it's for

Saffron grows on volcanic acres and can be processed further in the feed kitchen.

Saffron is another basic Obsidian farm ingredient, harvested on the volcanic fields just like Rye, only with a longer growing time and a bigger yield per batch. It gets processed further in the feed kitchen. The base price per unit is 130 Obsidian dollars, it's available in the shop as well, and you can grow it from level 0.

How to get it

The same pair of recipes applies on the Volcanic field and the Fertile volcanic field at every level. Without seeds you harvest 45 units in 48 minutes, and if you put one Special saffron seed on the field, it grows 563 units straight away, you just have to wait 8 hours for them. Against the base price of 130 Obsidian dollars per unit, growing your own clearly comes out better, and buying in the shop only makes sense in a pinch, when you need Saffron right away and don't have a field free.

What to do with it

You process Saffron in the Feed kitchen or the Efficient feed kitchen into Lizard feed.

Tip from a veteran player If you're raising lizards in bigger numbers, plan your Saffron harvest so that the forty-eight-minute cycle lands while you're at the game and can send it straight on to the feed.

Most common mistake Some players leave their fields empty after harvesting because they forget about the nearly hour-long cycle, and lose production time for nothing.
