Winter cottage – Goodgame Big FarmWinter cottage – Level 1

Winter cottage

Houses Main farm Gourmet farm Flower farm

The Winter cottage is a solid source of workers on a compact footprint, but its negative impact on happiness needs to be dealt with continuously through decorations. I'd build and upgrade it gradually as you grow into more production buildings, not rush through all the levels at once.

What it's for

A lot of workers can find a cozy place to sleep in this delightful cottage with its rustic interior and warming fireplace.

The Winter cottage is a house you'll find on the Main farm, the Gourmet farm and the Flower farm, and it serves to house workers, without whom you can't get any production building running. At level one it holds 15 workers, but at the same time it lowers happiness on the farm by 35 points, because every new worker raises unhappiness. Its 5x5 size makes it a more compact house that you can fit even into a smaller free space. It's a building for anyone who needs to quickly raise the number of free workers and is willing to pay for it with a drop in happiness.

When to build it

Since it isn't bought in the shop, you get it another way, by completing a quest, unlocking a farm or in an event, and according to the table it's available from player level 29. It's worth building whenever you're running out of free workers for a new production or processing building, because without them you can't get it running. How many you need depends on how many production buildings you run at the same time, mainly keep an eye on your happiness so it doesn't drop so low that your production costs go up.

Is it worth upgrading

Upgrading makes sense whenever you need more workers but have no free space for another house. From 15 residents at level one you climb all the way to 65 at level ten, more than four times as many on the same 5x5 area. But you pay for that with a sharp rise in negative happiness, from minus 35 at level one up to minus 255 at level ten, so you need to balance every upgrade with another decoration or another source of happiness. Prices climb from 510 thousand dollars at level two to 48 million at level ten, and the last level is on top of that gated behind player level 96.

Tip from a veteran player Before you upgrade the cottage to a higher level, have a decoration or another happiness-boosting building ready in advance, because the drop after an upgrade tends to be sudden and shows up in your production costs immediately.
Most common mistake The most common mistake is upgrading houses without regard for happiness, players then have plenty of workers, but due to low happiness their production costs go up so much that production stops paying off.
