This composter turns fallen obsidian leaves into a humus that is specifically made for the harsh environment of the obsidian farm.

The insulated composter is a processing building on the Obsidian farm that turns fallen obsidian leaves into humus suited to the harsh conditions of this farm. So it isn't about animals or crops, it's a middle step in the production chain where you turn an input material into something you need further along on the farm. It only takes up 5x5 tiles, so it fits into a smaller free spot as well. It's meant for players who already have the Obsidian farm up and running and need a steady source of humus without depending on the market.

When to build it

The first level costs 100 000 obsidian dollars and takes 4 hours to build, so it isn't the cheapest building when you're starting the farm, but it's available right from player level 114. It's worth putting up as soon as you start needing humus regularly, because without it you either leave the fallen obsidian leaves lying around or buy humus.

Is it worth upgrading

With this building upgrading clearly pays off, because the production time of one batch drops from 4 hours at level one to just 21 minutes at level eight – that's more than a tenfold speed-up for the same input and the same output. The price climbs step by step from 100 000 to 800 000 obsidian dollars and the worker requirement with it (10 up to 31), so upgrading makes sense gradually, as your player level grows and you qualify for the higher levels.

Tip from a veteran player Before you start pushing the insulated composter to higher levels, work out whether you even collect enough fallen obsidian leaves to make use of production that's ten times faster – otherwise you're just paying extra for speed you have nothing to feed.
