House

Houses Northern lights farm Festive farm

You can't manage a seasonal farm without the house, it's a purely practical building you put up according to how many workers you need, not for the looks. The low entry cost has to be balanced out with happiness elsewhere.

What it's for

Your industrious workers eat and sleep in the simple house. New houses increase the number of workers, but cause unhappiness.

The house is the basic accommodation building on the Northern lights farm and the Festive farm - it provides the workers without whom you can't produce or build anything on these farms. You don't pay for it in dollars, but in the currency tied to that particular seasonal farm. Every house you build adds workers, but it also drags down the farm's happiness, which shows up as higher production costs. It's a building for anyone who wants to get production going on a seasonal farm on a larger scale - without enough houses you have nobody to run your other buildings.

When to build it

Build it as soon as you open the farm, and build as many as you need workers for the production and processing buildings you plan to run there - workers only serve the farm they live on. There's no point waiting for a higher level, because without workers you won't get any production going at all. It's smarter to build them gradually as the farm expands rather than all at once, otherwise the drop in happiness will catch up with you in your production costs.

Is it worth upgrading

Upgrading pays off as soon as you need more workers and don't want to squeeze another house onto an already cramped farm - from level 1 to 4 the capacity rises from 8 to 20 inhabitants, so 2.5 times as many. The catch is that each level also increases the negative effect on happiness, so pair the upgrade with decorations or with the fancy version, otherwise your production costs will rise faster than the upgrade is worth.

Tip from a veteran player Before you demolish a house, make sure you have enough free, unassigned workers - demolishing takes away exactly as many workers as the house holds, even if they happen to be busy elsewhere.
Most common mistake The most common mistake is throwing up lots of simple houses at the very start with no regard for happiness - the farm's happiness then drops so low that production gets more expensive and the player has no idea why.
