What it's for
Ever wanted to live in a house, a very big house in the country? Well this country manor doesn't just look amazing, but it provides all the snugness and comfort a hard-working farmer deserves.
The Country manor is a house I build on three farms at once, on the Main farm, the Gourmet farm and the Flower farm, and its only job is to give me more workers. Without workers nothing gets made in the production or processing buildings, so this building is one of the foundations the whole farm economy rests on. Every unit you build or upgrade also lowers happiness on that farm, which then pushes production costs up. It's a building for anyone who needs enough free hands on the farm to staff everything else.
When to build it
The lowest level is available from player level 1 and costs just 5,000 dollars with a 15 minute build time, so it's one of the first buildings you'll put up on a new farm. How many you'll need depends on how many production and processing buildings you want running, because workers only count for the farm their house stands on, so you have to build it separately on each of the three farms where you want people available. Before I add another one, I always check whether I have enough decorations and other sources of happiness on the farm, because every house digs that hole deeper.
Is it worth upgrading
Upgrading pays off gradually as you grow. Going from level 1 to 2 gets you 10 extra residents for a mere 20,000 dollars, while going from level 9 to 10 costs you 44,000,000 dollars for 15 extra residents, so the return on investment drops noticeably at high levels. Happiness falls by roughly 23 to 30 points with each level, and between level seven and eight it drops by a full 64 points, so the higher you push the house, the more decorations or other sources of happiness you need on hand to keep it from driving your production costs up. High levels only make sense once you've secured enough happiness on that farm and genuinely need more workers for new production buildings.
