What it's for

Alpaca milk and cream are made in the alpaca pen. Alpacas need alpaca feed, which is made from pasture grass in the sugar mill.

The alpaca pen is an animal building on the Candy farm where you turn alpaca feed into alpaca milk and cream. It takes up a 10x5 space and you'll only find it on this farm, you can't build it on the Main farm. You have to make the alpaca feed first in the sugar factory out of nutritious grass, so this building is more the final link in a longer production chain than a source of income on its own. It suits players who already have feed production running on the Candy farm and want to use it for raw materials for further processing.

When to build it

It's worth building only once you have a steady supply of alpaca feed on the Candy farm, otherwise the building will sit empty most of the time. It takes up fifty tiles and needs eight farmhands at level one, so sort out your houses on the farm first so you have enough spare hands. Given the size and the demand for farmhands, one was plenty for me, I handled production through upgrading instead.

Is it worth upgrading

Upgrading clearly pays off here, between level one and max level alpaca milk production grows from 45 to 360 and cream from 25 to 200 in the same 7 hours, so eight times as much without the production time getting any longer. The price climbs more steeply than the yield though, from 46 thousand at level one up to 2.6 million at level four, so the investment comes back gradually. Every level also adds farmhands, from 8 up to 21, so count on that cost as well.

Tip from a veteran player Before you build the pen, get alpaca feed production going in the sugar factory first so the building isn't idle from day one, with this animal building the feed is always a tighter bottleneck than the milk production itself.

Most common mistake The most common mistake is building the pen before you have stable alpaca feed production sorted out, and then the building just eats up precious space and farmhands without producing anything.
