What it's for

The farmhouse determines the construction speed on your farm and is home to several workers.

The farmhouse on the Northern lights farm and the Festive farm sets the building pace on the farm and also houses a few workers on top of the regular houses. It doesn't produce anything, it works as the farm's control center and affects how fast you can build and upgrade everything else around it. You pay for it in snow dollars, so it's firmly tied to that farm's seasonal currency. It's a building for anyone who builds on these seasonal farms, because without faster construction every new building drags on far longer than it needs to.

When to build it

You don't buy the farmhouse in the shop, you get it automatically when you unlock the Northern lights farm or the Festive farm. As soon as you have the snow dollars for it, it's worth upgrading right at the start of the season, because building speed carries over to every single structure you put up or upgrade on the farm. There's only one per farm, so you're not deciding how many to have, only how quickly you get it to a higher level.

Is it worth upgrading

Upgrades cost more and more snow dollars, from 240,000 at level 2 through 1.2 million at level 3 up to 5.5 million at level 4, but the build time stays reasonable, from an hour and forty minutes to six hours at the last level. Each level raises the number of inhabitants living in the building, from 17 up to 28 at level 4, while the building doesn't affect happiness at all. Because the building speed applies to the whole farm, it pays to upgrade the farmhouse before you start putting up anything else.

Tip from a veteran player Don't spend your snow dollars on decorations right at the start of the season, pour them into the farmhouse first – the faster construction pays you back on every other building you put up on the farm.
Most common mistake An early mistake is leaving the farmhouse at level 1 while building and upgrading everything else, because then each of those takes far longer than it should thanks to the slow construction speed the farmhouse controls.
